Dear Sir/ Madam,
APPLICATION 19/P/1354/LBC. Listed building consent for installation of external light fittings to illuminate the Pier Toll house and Pier Pagoda.
The Civic Society has considered the above application carefully and regret that we cannot support it. We object because,if allowed, this application will add to light pollution and energy consumption at a time when both these issues are of worldwide concern.
Clevedon is one of many towns to have declared for Climate Emergency recently, and we think that this application at this time is completely out of step with current thinking.
It would not set a good example as the effect external lighting to such an iconic Grade 1 Listed structure is highly visible and as a consequence would establish an unfortunate precedent.
