Our letter text is as follows:

 CLEVEDON CIVIC SOCIETY.

Dear Sir/madam,

APPLICATION 19/P/2253/ADV. New signage and external lighting at the Royal Oak, Copse Road, Clevedon.

The Civic Society is supportive of this application for new signage at this popular public house in the heart of the Conservation Area.

However we believe that the recent declaration of climate emergency by District and Town Councils should be considered when determining this application.

We support the application where it comprises replacement signs and the associated lighting which is entirely appropriate for the public house , but request that North Somerset Council is satisfied that the new lighting consumes no more energy than the existing fittings(and hopefully less) before approval is given. Also the design of the light fittings should shield against upward light spillage to avoid light pollution.

We do not support the proposed floodlighting of the front of the building with three uplighters at first floor level which is wasteful of energy and adds to overall light pollution in the area.

Hopefully you can work with the applicants to eliminate the floodlighting element of the scheme,

Yours Faithfully,
