Prior's Wood

Despite, or perhaps because of the General Election, 10 walkers gathered on a lovely day for this short outing.

The leader thanked everyone for coming on such a momentous day! Prior’s Wood is reputed to be one of the finest “bluebell” woods in Somerset and in the bright sunlight it certainly lived up to its reputation.

The wild garlic was also fully in bloom and the new leaves on the trees were delightful. Because the walk was relatively short and perhaps because it was also quite steep in places there were plenty of stops for photographs, discussions about flowers and even the sighting of a few butterflies.

After about an hour and a half we reached the local pub where we had an excellent meal in the walled garden. The event was declared by all to be very enjoyable and Prior’s Wood, which is owned and managed by Avon Wildlife Trust, to be a real revelation to most of the group.
