It was a damp morning with light rain and a poor weather forecast. Nonetheless, seven members of the Footpaths Group enjoyed a good 3.5 mile walk around the Uphill area encountering just a few showers.

We climbed the steep path to the disused 11th century church of St Nicholas, which served the medieval port of Uphill but lost its roof in the 1860s, and then took in the marvellous 360 degree views from the platform inside the nearby former windmill.

After descending to the surfaced path through the Walborough Nature Reserve, we walked as far as the dyke that runs along Uphill Pill. This was too muddy for walking so we retraced our steps through the Reserve to the boatyard, where we had a break at the Uphill Wharf Café.
