Priddy

On a sunny day with an intermittent slight to medium breeze, five members of the Footpaths Group enjoyed a 4.3 mile walk in and around Priddy.

Starting from the green in the centre of the village, we first looked at the thatched hut in the middle of the green where the hurdles are kept for the annual Sheep Fair, moved from Wells during the time of the Black Death and held annually 'on the closest Wednesday to 21st August' since then, until 2013.

Moving up to the church, we spend a brief time investigating the interior before resuming the route, crossing some stone stiles and staircases to the field above the entrance to Eastwater Cavern.

Crossing fields and the main road into the village, we joined the Monarch's way along the edge of fields until this intersected with the West Mendip Way, which we followed to a minor road back to the village, where the Queen Victoria pub awaited up for welcome drinks and lunch.
