On the coldest morning of the year, 24 walkers and 2 dogs gathered at the bandstand in bright sunshine. Thick frost lay on the seafront as we walked towards the pier, up Marine Hill, crossing to the Friary path. The steep ascent gave us the opportunity to stop several times and admire the view across to Wain’s Hill and beyond – all clearly bathed in the welcome winter sun.
At the top of Zigzag, we turned onto Dial Hill Road for more admiration of the scenery before crossing to Old Park Road, skirting Dial Hill and so into Cambridge Road where a warm welcome and mulled wine awaited us. (Thank you, Geoff and Wendy for the splendid hospitality).
After lingering in the sunny front garden, we made for Esmond Grove and the cricket field, and so up to the top of Dial Hill for more basking in the sun and admiring the view. On descending we aimed for Zigzag and the Royal Oak in Copse Road, where the convivial time continued in the back room.
A happy occasion for a large number of Civic Society members to meet and enjoy being together.
