8 walkers started off from Clevedon on a, luckily, sunny day.
Arriving in Sandford we set off up Hill Road to The Batch. Passing the Old Bakery, a grassy path led steeply up past Batch House. Overnight rain had made the subsequent rocky terrain rather slippery but we safely reached the woods where we met a party of young climbers heading for the quarry.
A delightful sun-dappled stroll through the woods followed - mostly level with a few ups and downs. After about half a mile, the path turned right leading after a while to a wide bridleway where we turned left and walked the ridge as far as the narrow rocky path which leads eventually to the site of a Roman villa. We enjoyed splendid views to the coast, and inland.
After a brief stop the gravelled path leading down to the Mendip Ski Centre beckoned. We were intrigued by the structure of the ski slope and impressed by the number of outdoor pursuits taking place. Passing under the ski lift we found a narrow track leading up through the woods.
In spite of taking a wrong turning along the way we regained the main path and made our way back to the cars. A short drive to a good pub lunch at The Plough in Congresbury rounded off an enjoyable 3 mile amble.
