It was a fine morning for our first outing away from Clevedon following the various coronavirus lockdowns.

Sixteen members of the Footpaths Group participated in a 4.6 mile walk around the Uphill area. We parked in Uphill Road South and walked through the attractive village. We climbed the steep path to the ruined 11th century church of St Nicholas, which served the medieval port of Uphill but lost its roof in the 1860s, and took in the marvellous views from the nearby former windmill.

After descending to the surfaced path through the Walborough Nature Reserve, we walked to the end of the Reserve and returned along the dyke that runs close to Uphill Pill. We stopped below a bronze-age burial mound for a picnic on a grassy bank with views over Brean Down and continued on to Uphill boatyard.

Then we walked along the Uphill Sands section of Weston Bay and cut up on a path over the golf course, walking back to the cars through the plantation and past the bluebell field.
