Abbots Pool

11 walkers started out from the start point of this 3.95 mile walk on a sunny but occasionally cloudy day.

We walked through the village to the church, and then in a circuit across the fields, investigating some old animal water troughs, and back to the crossroads in the centre of the village, attracting the interest of a herd of young cows on the way.

Our route took us past the ornate Priory and its even more elaborately embellished orangery and down the steps towards the lower pools, where we had our coffee break.

After refreshments, we climbed up to the Pool proper, where we paused to take in the beauty and the wildlife.

A circular route through the woods and down a bridlepath brought us to the road back to the Pool, where we encountered a gentleman doing a performance review on a new BMW motorcycle. We then approached the Pool from the opposite direction, before climbing back up the steps and through the lanes back to our cars.

After this enjoyable walk, we repaired to the Failand Inn for a well-deserved lunch.
