Loop Around Nailsea

Mud, mud, glorious mud! This accurately describes our venture into the fields around Nailsea.

The walk was based on loop walk 5 from the booklet ‘The Nailsea Round’, published by Nailsea & District Footpath Group. We set off from Backwell Lake and accessed the surrounding fields from Moor Lane.

It quickly became obvious why so many of our winter walks have been in towns. The fields were waterlogged, particularly at gates and other pinch-points, but we bravely negotiated these muddy areas. Our hope was that stepping on to stones did not send us toppling into the enormous puddles and amazingly nobody slipped over.

We were rewarded with some fine views and plenty of fresh air. As the sky became darker with ominous clouds it was decided to take a short cut back to the cars and head for our lunch spot.

Lunch was at Coates House, a community cafe, where we were able to discuss the walk and stay dry. A 3 mile walk for 9 participants, plenty of laughs but serious boot-cleaning that evening.
