With the weather forecasters threatening rain for later in the day, 7 walkers started out on this walk to Walton Common.
Starting from the entrance to the Golf Club at Castle Road, we proceeded across the course and down through West Wood to Walton-in-Gordano church.
Walking up Walton Street, we turned off up the steep path to the Common, following the path along its length. Some stops were made to view the ramparts of the ancient hill fort and a dew pond before descending through Common Hill Wood and along an access lane to the coast road.
A closure on the coast path meant that we followed the detour along the road and down though one of the caravan parks to the coast. The passage along the coast path was punctuated by a brief light shower before we climbed up though a field containing semi-wild horses to a footpath running along the upper part of the golf course.
The darkening skies along this last stretch were the prelude to a torrential storm which hit the walkers as they turned into the golf course driveway. All were thoroughly doused before we arrived back at our cars. That said, it was a good walk enjoyed by all.
