Four Footpath Group members started off this Survey Walk around the Southern Fields with an inclement weather warning about, but fortunately the rain held off until they were comfortably ensconced having lunch.
Having started at the Strode Road car park, we followed the path along the river down to and across Marshall's Field. The wilder grass at the sides of river path were being cut as we walked, so we had unimpeded progress, but this was not to continue.
Along the sea wall south of the Pill there were repair works in progress, so we deviated to the grassy area closer to the golf course for a while. Turning inland, we reached Lower Strode Road and to the start of the footpaths across the fields.
Through the first two fields, we were watched by horses and sheep, but the third field was filled with an impassable maize crop, We found a way round the edge of this field, and thence to a junction devoid of any signage. Consulting the maps, the intrepid leader led the walkers down the edge of two further fields, noting that there were new bridges and gates installed, but the direction discs pointed across the fields...
Having found the path back to civilization, we had to circumnavigate two further maize fields before passing the Warren Holiday Village and crossing the river bridge and to the Crab Apple for our lunch.
Unfortunately, our walk report to North Somerset Council will mainly be a duplicate of the previous report for this Survey Walk, highlighting the blockage of designated rights of way by this particular farm.
