CLEVEDON CIVIC SOCIETY

MAY 2020

Dear Sir/ Madam,

APPLICATION 20/P/0891/FUL. Demolition of 2 bungalows to be replaced by 4 detached dwellings with associated parking and landscaping.

The site is highly visible from the coast path, and until recently only one small bungalow was visible in a wooded environment.

This is the last natural headland north of Clevedon and the Civic Society is concerned about the intrusion of an urban element into the otherwise rural character of the coast path.

The location plan shows how close the coast path is to the site at this point, and even in summer there are clear views of the site from several places.

The new houses will be much more intrusive in the landscape than the existing bungalows, and we are particularly concerned about plot 4 which will face directly onto the coast path and be visible for its full height.

In addition the other 3 houses will be seen in oblique view beyond plot 4 which will give them a terraced effect which is most out of keeping with the rural setting.

For these reasons we ask that North Somerset Council works with the applicant to achieve a design more sensitive to this important site on the rural edge of Clevedon.

Yours Faithfully,
