CLEVEDON CIVIC SOCIETY

MARCH 2021

Dear Sir/Madam,

APPLICATION 21/P/0646/FUH. 3 The Avenue, Clevedon.

3 Storey side extension,Rebuild and extend rear extension, Rebuild kitchen entrance extension.

The Civic Society regrets that once again we must OBJECT to the above application because our original concerns about extending this house have not been addressed.

This is one of a group of houses of very similar design and scale, constructed with high quality materials and detailing which make a significant contribution to the character of the upper part of the town.

In our objections to previous applications we said that we would not oppose extending this house if the extension is visually subsevient to the existing building, as described in the North Somerset Council Residential Design Guide.

The common factor in all of the applications is the 3 storey side extension, and despite the variety of designs including this latest flat roof solution, none of them achieve a scale subservient to the existing building. Until the proposed side extension is truly subservient in scale to the main house we will continue to object to the applications.

If this application is approved it will set a precedent, and other houses in this group could be extended to a similar scale which would destroy the visual cohesion of this part of The Avenue, and a valuable part of the character of Clevedon would be lost.

For the above reasons we ask that North Somerset Council REFUSES this application.

Yours Faithfully,

This Planning Application was withdrawn by the applicant in February 2022.
