"Walking inspires and promotes conversation that is grounded in the body, and so it gives the soul a place where it can thrive. I think I could write an interesting memoir of significant walks I have taken with others, in which intimacy was not only experienced but set fondly into the landscape of memory’’ Thomas Moore, Soul Mates

So it was that in October members of the Clevedon Social Walking group, an off-shoot of the Civic Society Footpath Group met in Selworthy for a weekend of conversation and walking.

We enjoyed the splendid views from Dunkery Beacon, and the Valley of the Rocks near Lynmouth.

In spite of poor weather forecasts we kept dry and on Sunday had our picnic in sunshine at Porlock Weir.

We stayed at the HF hotel and our evenings were spent doing silly quizzes with much laughter and we won the best nature arrangement with our prize-winning Phallus impudicus toadstool.

All participants were pleased with their walking achievements, enjoyed good conversation and have been left with ‘fond memories’.

All are returning for another weekend in 2020, this time we are trying the landscapes of The Brecon Beacons.
