We had a lovely springtime walk through private woodlands, traversing the northern slopes of Blackdown, eventually emerging onto the lower slopes of Dolebury Warren.
We passed the ruins of Mendip Lodge once the site of an elegant mansion hosting meetings between Hannah Moore and William Wilberforce - names to conjure with, long ago.
We trekked through bracken and across meadows onto the proverbial sunlit uplands, where we stopped for coffee.
Slow and pleasant progress back to the carpark and on to the Crown at Churchill for an amiable lunch.
A gentle 3.7 miles through the English countryside.
