On the hottest day of the year so far, 14 of us set off for a walk around ‘Historic Bedminster’.
The Metro bus took us to the start of the walk at Bedminster Bridge. From here we had a 4 mile circular walk taking in the past industrial greatness of Bedminster - smelting works, steel works, tobacco industry, mills, lead works, a tannery and the many coalfields, sadly now all gone.
We passed through ancient back alleys, footpaths and some unexplored green places, we had an amazing panoramic view of Bristol from the top of Victoria Park.
Our coffee stop was at the very interesting Windmill Hill City Farm, and the day ended with a welcome lunch at the Failand Inn.
