On a bright and sunny day, 7 walkers met up for a 4.2 mile walk between the two villages of Winford and Dundry.
Finding Winford church next to our start point open for visitors, we had a brief look round the interior before walking through the churchyard and over the fields behind, in the second of which we found the main pipe carrying water from the Mendips around Chew Valley to the tanks at Barrow Gurney.
The next mile or so was uphill on the Monarch's Way, and at the top of the main climb we had magnificent views back over the valley to Chew Valley lake and the Mendips beyond.
A little further on we found views over the Barrow Tanks, Long Ashton and south Bristol, including the three suspension bridges, to South Wales over the Severn Estuary.
Our route then took us into Dundry village, past the church and the Village Hall, and back down the lanes back to our cars.
We then retired to the Crown Inn at Regil, where most of us partook of a 'Light Bite' lunch.
